NBA All-Star Betting – Sunday, February 20th, 8:00 PM ET
The East starters are led by Miami’s LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, who are still getting their chemistry down on the Heat, but it’s working out. Chicago’s Derrick Rose holds down the other guard position, while Orlando’s Dwight Howard and New York’s Amare Stoudemire are the big men. Those checking out NBA scores may be a bit surprised by four Boston players leading the reserves, but Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are all deserving of their spot. A pair of Atlanta Hawks, Al Horford and Joe Johnson, will also make the team, along with Miami’s Chris Bosh.
The biggest snub may be Chicago’s Carlos Boozer, who is playing a major role on a playoff-bound team, or maybe Andrew Bogut, but Milwaukee is having a poor season, so that probably hurt his chances.
Los Angeles’ Kobe Bryant was the lead vote-getter overall, and he’ll share the backcourt with New Orleans’ Chris Paul, who isn’t getting the MVP consideration he deserves. Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant and Denver’s Carmelo Anthony will man the forward positions, while Houston’s Yao Ming was voted as the starting center, but he obviously won’t play because of injury (Commissioner David Stern will name a replacement). The West has a pair of first-timers in Clippers’ rookie Blake Griffin and Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook, while Utah’s Deron Williams and San Antonio’s Manu Ginobili will make their second All-Star appearance. Ginobili will be joined by teammate Tim Duncan, while the Lakers’ Pau Gasol and Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki round out the squad.
There may be a sports betting bonus for picking Yao’s replacement from the list of snubs from the West, with Minnesota’s Kevin Love being the most obvious. Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge has put his team on his back with Brandon Roy on the sidelines, while New Orleans’ David West and Memphis’ Zach Randolph also warrant consideration. As for the guards, the Clippers’ Eric Gordon has become a scoring machine, while Houston’s Kevin Martin and Phoenix’s Steve Nash have also gotten some attention, but their teams aren’t winning (Griffin gets a pass as the most exciting player to enter the league since James).
This should be an exciting game for fans and players alike, although you can leave your defensive sensibilities at home; no one has failed to score less than 110 points in an All-Star game since 1976. Therefore, expect to see a crazy posted total in your sports book on February 20th.
