College Basketball: Georgetown vs Louisville
|
30 January 2011
#19 Louisville at #20 Georgetown
In the rugged Big East conference, there are no off-games and so, just two days after defeating #5 University of Connecticut in double OT 79-78, the #19 Louisville Cardinals (17-4) must travel to DC to face the #20 Georgetown Hoyas (16-5).
Louisville is forged a 6-2 record in Big East play thanks to upsets over Villanova and UConn. The Cardinals, unlike some seasons, do not have a lot of star power but do dress 10 players that average between 28 and 12 minutes played with eight of those players scoring between 15 points and 6 points. Senior guard Preston Knowles leads the team with 15.1 points per game and he has been shooting nearly 40 percent from 3-point range. Sophomore guard Peyton Siva came-up with the heroics against UConn, playing 42 minutes and scoring 19 points, and averages 11.1 points per game.
The Cards’ defenders will have their hands full guarding Hoya’s guard Austin Freeman. Freeman averages 18.8 points per game and shoots nearly 50% from beyond the 3-point arc. Georgetown has rebounded after three straight losses with four straight wins, including an upset over #7 Villanova on Saturday.
This will be a high-scoring game featuring two of the conference’s finest shooting guards in Knowles and Freeman, and both teams will need to guard against a let-down early.
