College Basketball Preview: (16) Illinois at (21) Wisconsin
|
13 January 2011
#21 Wisconsin (12-4) plays host to #16 Illinois (13-4) at the Kohl Center in a Big Ten conference game. The Fighting Illini are still smarting from a stunning 57-55 loss at Penn State and now they must face Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Ohio State in consecutive games. Illinois already defeated the Badgers 69-61 in their second conference game led by guard Demetri McCamey’s 21 points. McCamey leads the Illini in scoring with 15.8 ppg but he also gets support from guard D. J. Richardson and F Mike Davis, who both average 11 points per game.
Wisconsin is coming-off a tough loss of their own, a 64-61 overtime loss to #24 Michigan State. The Badgers are, to put it mildly, offensively challenged, ranking in the bottom of Division I schools rebounding and scoring. They have some impressive wins, against #13 Minnesota comes to mind, but they need to find some more scoring. The Badgers have two tough scoring options, forward Jon Leuer (18.8 ppg) and guard Jordan Taylor (16.7 ppg). After that, there’s not much, so the Illini can concentrate on those two stars and takes their chances with the rest. That’s exactly what happened during the last game as those two players accounted for 38 points and the rest of the team scored just 21 points. You can expect a close, low-scoring game again as the Illini go for the season sweep.
