#12 Purdue at #15 Wisconsin
While #12 Purdue (18-4) avoided an upset in the Big Ten with a 73-61 win over Minnesota, #15 Wisconsin (15-5) could not, losing to upstart Penn State 56-52. Both teams will collide in Big East action on Feb. 1 at the Kohl Center in Wisconsin.
Purdue rebounded with their win against the Golden Gophers after losing by 23 points to #1 Ohio State just four days earlier. The Boilermakers are led by the dynamic duo of forward JaJuan Johnson (20.7) and guard E’Twaun Moore (17.5). The two players have put-up half their teams shots and half their points so teams have become focused on stopping the guard-forward combo.
Wisconsin has been offensively challenged all season, ranking 175th in the nation, and are one of the worst shooting teams as well. The Badgers have a terrific twosome of their own in senior forward Jon Leuer (19.2 ppg) and junior guard Jordan Taylor (17.4 ppg). No other player scores in double figures so the team is reliant almost solely on the production of their two offensive leaders.
This game could come down to which team’s stars outplays the others. Johnson and Moore have been the prolific pair, slightly, and Purdue seems to have a better supporting cast so look for the Boilermakers to slip through in a low-scoring game.
