College Basketball: Texas vs Texas A&M
|
30 January 2011
#8 Texas at #11 Texas A&M
Last time #8 Texas (18-3) faced #11 Texas A&M (17-3) the game wasn’t even close as the Longhorns blew out their hardwood rival Aggies 81-60 but A&M hopes to even the score on their own court in this Big 12 rematch.
After suffering just one lose through January 15, the Aggies have lost two of three, including 57-48 upset loss at Nebraska. A&M has been winning with defense all season, having one of the worst shooting and scoring teams in the nation. The Aggies are led by 6-7 sophomore forward Khris Middleton with 15.7 points per game but only two other players have scored in double figures and their bench depth is poor.
Texas is getting it down with four players averaging about 30 minutes per game. Whether this team will start to fade due to all the minutes played is uncertain, but, right now, they are on a roll, winning 12 of 13 with their line loss in that span a one-time overtime defeat to UConn. The Longhorns are led by super sophomore Jordan Hamilton (19 ppg, 7.6 rebounds per game) as well as a strong starting core of Tristan Thompson (12.9 ppg), Gary Johnson (11.8 ppg), and Corey Joseph (11.2 ppg).
Texas should handle the Aggies but, in this topsy turvy basketball season, anything is possible, especially on the road.
