College Basketball: Top 5 on Upset Alert
|
14 January 2011
After upsets by Florida State, Minnesota, and Penn State within the past week, the college basketball world is on alert for the upset. Each of the college basketball teams ranked in the Top 5 are in action on Saturday, January 15 and each must guard against getting beat at home by an unranked opponent. Here is a breakdown:
Virginia at (1) Duke
The Duke Blue Devils (15-1) are fresh off an improbable loss at Florida State. Can Virginia (10-6) make it two losses in a row? No chance.
Penn State at (2) Ohio State
At 17-0, Ohio State is riding high but they must beware Penn State (10-6), a team that showed they were dangerous in beating Illinois 57-55. This game, though, is in Columbus where Ohio State will be a heavy favorite.
Nebraska at (3) Kansas
The Jayhawks (16-0) escaped with an 84-79 win over Iowa State. Nebraska comes in at 13-3, the team can shoot, and has won 11 of 12. Upset? Not at Phog Allen Field House.
Cincinnati at (4) Syracuse
Syracuse (17-0) hasn’t been really challenged yet in the early going but the Bearcats (16-1) have a chance to pull-off the upset.
Seton Hall at (5) Pittsburgh
Pitt (16-1) is coming off a decisive 72-57 win at Georgetown and seems to found its groove. Seton Hall (8-9) shouldn’t present too much of a challenge – especially in a game played at “the Pete” where the Panthers are nearly invincible.
