NCAA College Basketball: Iowa at Ohio State
|
18 January 2011
Iowa at (1) Ohio State
Ohio State University (18-0) is number one again and the Buckeyes get their first crack at defending their top position at home against Iowa (7-10).
At first blush, this game is a huge mismatch as Ohio State is undefeated, in conference play and overall, while Iowa is 0-5 in conference.
However, less than a month ago, on January 4, Iowa hung tough against Ohio State, leading 35-29 at halftime, before losing 73-68. The Hawkeyes were led by forward Melsahn Basabe with 22 points while F Jarryd Cole and G Matt Gatens chipped-in 14 points each.
Ohio State, though, was too much as forward Jared Sullinger dropped in 24 points.
After winning the last four games by a total of 14 points, the Buckeyes will be super-charged, playing in front of excited home crowd, with their number one ranking on the line. Sullinger leads the team in scoring with over 17.6 points a game, while William Buford averages 13.6 points per game, David Lighty averages 12.7 ppg, and Jon Diebler, who also leads the team in minutes and three-point shooting, helping the team to 79.8 points scored per game.
Iowa struggles to score points and will need to slow the game down, keep the score low, and hope they can find a way to pull an upset on the road.
