#11 Texas vs #2 Kansas
Phog Allen Fieldhouse should be rocking as #11 Texas (15-3) visits #2 Kansas (18-0) in a Big 12 match-up.
Kansas is the #2 team in NCAA college basketball and the team is making a strong case for #1. They are the best shooting team in the nation and have victories over Arizona, UCLA, Memphis, USC, Michigan, and Baylor. The 20-point win over Baylor in Texas was impressive since the Bears were 11-5 and on the fringe of being ranked.
Kansas is led by the Morris brothers. Marcus leads the team in scoring with 17.2 points per game and brother Markieff averages 13.2. Freshman guard Josh Selby has only played in nine games and has been inconsistent in his scoring but still averages 12.1 despite scoring 5 points at Michigan and 3 points at Nebraska. Senior guard Tyrel Reed can also shoot, averaging .374 from 3-point range, and scoring 9.4 points per game. This team, though, is built from the inside-out, with the 6-9 and 6-10 Morris brothers doing most of the damage.
#11 Texas has a big man of their own in 6-8 freshman Tristan Thompson. This super frosh is averaging 13.1 points per game, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.1 blocked shots per game. If not Thompson crashing the board, then look out for 6-7 sophomore forward Jordan Hamilton, who leads the team in scoring with nearly 20 points per game. Hamilton put down 27 in a 21-point win over A&M on Wednesday.
The Longhorns love to crash the boards but the Jayhawks, with their shooting percentage, don’t leave many balls off the rim. This should be a good game of contrasting styles with the winner taking an early lead in conference play.
