#7 Villanova at #3 Syracuse
Another week and another big game in the Big East as #7 Villanova (16-2) visits the Carrier Dome to take on #3 Syracuse (18-1).
The Orange are coming off a 74-66 loss at #4 Pittsburgh in a game that saw the Panthers run out to a 19-0 to start the game only to see Syracuse respond with a 17-0 run of their own. Syracuse, though, could never get over the hump and faded down the stretch, suffering their first loss of the season. Leading scorer Kris Joseph missed the Pittsburgh game with a concussion but looks ready to play against Villanova. Though both Rick Jackson (13.1) and Scoop Jardine (13.6) had good games against Pitt, Joseph was missed and his presence will provide the team with a big lift.
Villanova suffered their first loss in Big East competition in just their second loss on the season when they bowed to Connecticut 61-59 on Monday night. The Wildcats are a young team but feature senior leaders in guards Corey Fisher (16.1 ppg) and Corey Stokes (15.8 ppg), dominant in their 3-guard offense. Both will need to come-up big against the Orange if the Wildcats want to avoid a second straight Big East loss.
This game should be a typical Big East but give the edge to the Orange if Joseph returns.
