Over the holiday weekend the two-time WBO Welterweight Champion Paul Williams was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident in Marietta, Georgia. According to reports from his manager, Williams severed his spinal cord after a motorcycle accident and will likely never fight again. Boxer Paul Williams was scheduled to fight Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 15th in Las Vegas, obviously that boxing event is now cancelled.
According to his manager George Peterson, Williams remains in good spirits and still believes he may fight again. "I want to think along with him, cause I've seen him do things in his boxing career that shouldn't have happened." stated Peterson.
Williams is among boxing's most versatile and formidable fighters, he earned his first tile win in 2007 over Antonio Margarito and subsequently earned wins over Carlos Quintana, Sergio Martinez and Kermit Clintron. Williams rise to glory was cut short by Martinez in a 2010 rematch, where Martinez earned a second round win.
