College Basketball: Louisville at Connecticut

#19 Louisville at #5 Connecticut

After losing two of out of three games to Pittsburgh and Notre Dame in late December and early January, the University of Connecticut (17-2) have managed to win six straight games, including thrillers against Texas and Villanova. On January 29, the Huskies host #19 Louisville (16-4).

Louisville is tied for second with the Huskies in the Big East with a 5-2 record after squeezing past WVU 55-54 on Wednesday night. The Cardinals are a high-scoring team, averaging 80.4 points per game, with three guards leading the way, Preston Knowles (15.4 ppg), Peyton Siva (10.6) and Chris Smith (10.0). Louisville features a deep team with eight players capable of scoring.

UConn, on the other hand, has mainly been a one-man band led by guard Kemba Walker, who has averaged 24.4 points per game as well as 36 minutes played per game. Big man Alex Oriakhi offers secondary scoring with 10.9 ppg and leads the team with 9 rebounds. Freshman Jerry Lamb has come on of late. He scored 24 and 16 points in victories against Marquette and Tennessee to give teams something to think about.

Connecticut has been on a roll as of late but the Cardinals represent a tough challenge as both teams look for positioning in the Big East conference.
