BCS Odds 2011: PSU Looking to Survive Difficult College Football Picks Schedule: In 2010 race to the BCS 2011 title, the Penn State Nittany Lions will become the first team ever to face three BCS bowl-winning teams from the previous college football picks season and the preseason Vegas odds placing the Nittany Lions at 35-1 to win the BCS College Football National Championship reflect that challenge. Penn State is ranked as the #14 team in the preseason USA Today college football poll, but may not even be the fourth-best team in the Big 10 college football picks race.
PSU returns eight starters on offense for the 2010 college football picks season, but must find a way to replace the productivity of quarterback Daryl Clark. Sophomore Kevin Newsome showed an accurate arm and a proclivity for running the football is the front-runner for the job and in the mix are also sophomore Matt McGloin and frosh Paul Jones. At running back, senior Evan Royster is finally the featured back, after years of sharing carries. Dynamic junior receiver Derek Moye, at 6’ 5”, gives the new quarterback a big target.
Gone from the defense this college football picks season are four of the five top tacklers, including two 2010 NFL draft picks. The defensive line is traditionally tough against the run and will need to break in a bunch of new players. Sophomore Michael Mauti is the best at linebacker but he has big shoes to fill with the departure of Sean Lee to the NFL. Three upperclassmen led the defensive backfield, including junior D’Anton Lynn at cornerback.

What can you say about Joe Paterno, entering his 45th college football picks season as head coach at Penn State University? Paterno is a legend nationally and more than that in State College, but he has been more of an icon than leader in the past few college football picks seasons, with age and failing health taking his toll. PSU must climb the mountain of facing Alabama, Ohio State, and Iowa, three BCS teams in 2009, on the road, with Alabama on September 11. If 2010 is indeed going to be Paterno’s last season, the campaign should be noteworthy for the challenge his team must face, if for nothing else.
