The “Ball Coach” did it again as Steve Spurrier’s team defeated the University of Alabama last week to crack the top ten for the first time this season. Now, in week seven of the NCAA college football season, #10 South Carolina must follow-up their upset victory with a trip to Kentucky (3-3). Vegas odds has South Carolina as a -5 point favorite on the road.
The Gamecocks (4-1) defeated Alabama 35-21 as quarterback Stephen Garcia had the game of the season as he completed 17 of 20 passes with 3 touchdowns while Marcus Lattimore rushed for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns. Garcia has had an up-and-down season but has completed 72% of his passes with 8 TDs. Freshman Marcus Lattimore has been a productive runner all season with 459 yards and 8 touchdowns. Defensively, South Carolina has been scored upon this season but rank in the top 30 in the nation.
The past two weeks, Kentucky has been involved in two high-scoring games in SEC play, including last week’s 37-34 loss to #7 Auburn. Kentucky has a high-powered offense, averaging 36 points per game, but have also given-up an average of 30 points per game.
Last week, the Wildcats, behind running back Randall Cobb’s three touchdowns, nearly upset Auburn, and South Carolina must guard against a letdown on the road. Garcia made the big mistake against Auburn to help lose the game but he was outstanding last week. Somewhere in the middle would be enough to win this ballgame and cover the Vegas spread but the “Ball Coach” better ward against an upset.
