Oklahoma (6-0) is college football’s #1 team and what reward do they get for that distinction? A trip to Columbia, Missouri and a date with #11 Missouri (6-0) in a battle of the unbeatens in Big 12 conference play during week eight of the NCAA college football season. Vegas odds have Oklahoma favored by -3 points on the road.
Ranked first in the first BCS poll of the season, Oklahoma must take-on a ranked Missouri team that is ranked second in the nation in points allowed with 10.8 and also features a diverse offense. The last two games the Missouri defense has been particularly stingy with a shut-out against Colorado and giving-up 9 points to Texas A&M. Offensively, the Tigers have a top-twenty passing attack led by quarterback Blaine Gabbert who has thrown 10 touchdown passes. His two main targets are T.J. Moe with 50 catches and Michael Egnew with 49 catches.
Missouri will have to play defense since Oklahoma averages 36 points a game. Traditionally, Oklahoma has been a running team but, in recent years, Sam Bradford and now Landry Jones has changed that tradition. Jones has 14 TD passes against just 3 interceptions. Ryan Broyles his main guy with 61 catches, 700 yards, and 5 TD catches, but seven different receivers have caught touchdown passes this season. DeMarco Murray is a talent at running back with 663 yards and 11 rushing TDs. He will be the main focus of the Mizzou defense but, keying on the ground game, will open-up passing lanes for Landry.
Mizzou and the Sooners are well-matched and this will be a tough road game for new #1 Oklahoma. Can they stay number one for another week? Without a running game, Missouri falters down the stretch and the Sooners cover the spread and win on the road.
