On first blush, the list of impact players on the offensive roster of the #1 Auburn Tigers (13-0) as they take-on the #2 Oregon Ducks (12-0) in the BCS Championship Game can be boiled down to one person: quarterback Cam Newton. Newton has been a one-man wrecking crew for the Tigers, a Heisman Trophy winner and maybe the most explosive player in all of college football. Yet, Auburn has more weapons on an offense that is ranked 4th in points scored with 42.7 points per game and 5th in rushing with 287 yards per game.
Key Players on Offense:
Cam Newton – The Heisman Trophy winner has had an epic season at quarterback, scoring 48 touchdowns, 20 rushing and 28 TD passes. Newton has rushed for 1,409 yards to lead the team and has passed for another 2,589 yards. His running ability makes him as dangerous as any player and he can throw the ball too. Oregon needs to watch him on every play and in every field position.
Onterio McCalebb – The freshman running back has made some huge plays and has become a homerun threat for the Tigers. He has averaged 8.6 yards per rush with 9 TDs and 763 yards on only 89 carries. He could be a game-breaker in the championship game.
Emory Blake – The sophomore wide receiver may have played his best game of the season against South Carolina in the SEC championship game with 5 catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. He caught 7 TD passes and averaged 16.9 yards per catch. He could make a difference against an Oregon pass defense that has struggled at times.
