In an interview with the Gainesville Sun Abolverdi Zach, four-star Dante Fowler Jr. of Florida (No. 74 in the ESPNU 150), who committed to Florida State last December, it sounded as if he were seriously considering flipping his promise to Florida.
Despite not being in Gainesville by Wednesday, Fowler now has plans to return a whopping five times - on Wednesday with his parents to the field Friday Night Lights, Alabama and Florida State games, and an official after the season. "I do not know what it is," said Fowler, "but I always see myself playing on that football field." College Football Odds makers have listed Florida State +175 Betting Odds 2011 ACC Championship.
Asked how the Gators could get him to change his mind, Fowler said: "Just keep showing me love, keep trying, show me the depth chart and just don't lie to me. Don't say I'm the only person that you want and then have three or four people that play my same position coming in. Just keep being straight up and honest, and you never know what can happen."
That middle sentence is key. The Florida staff has told Fowler that he is their top target, while Florida State already has two other DEs -- five-star Mario Edwards and four-star Chris Casher, who are Nos. 1 and 10 on the ESPNU 150, respectively -- committed. "(Coach Will Muschamp) said he thinks I'm mature enough to come in as a freshman and play a lot. I don't want to have to wait until my junior year. I just want to get on the field early and contribute and make an impact for the program." College Football Odds - Florida State one of the favorites to win the ACC. Bet on 2011 College Football.
