In November, Time will name its 2017 Person of the Year. This honor was started in 1927 when the editors at that time were reviewing covers and noticed that Charles Lindbergh was not given credit by Time Magazine for his historic flight earlier that year. So in an attempt to make up for this error they put him on the cover at the end of the year and called him “Man of the Year.
For 87 years Time has made a decision to pick one person who best represents the new of the year, where the world is at that time and where the world is going, for better or worse. The criteria is noted as “the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year.”
Time.com says the 2017 Person of the Year issue date is 12.18.17 which will go on sale on 12.8.17 with an Ad close of 11.10.17.
Vegas odds makers opening money line favorite is Emmanuel Macron at -150. Macron was born on December 21, 1977 is a French Politician who is President of France. At the age of 39 he became the youngest President in France’s history. Most recently Macron cut France’s wealth tax by 70% and endorsed Sisi’s human rights record on the same day. Will Time pick Emmanuel Macron this year?
Vegas odds makers have Donald Trump, Time Person of the year 2017 at +375. Time has, in history, picked a person more than once, so it’s always a possibility.
How about Colin Kaepernick at +450? Does he fit the criteria? Maybe if Time Magazine includes the “kneeling during the playing of the national anthem” in 2016 as the QB of the San Francisco 49ers. Kaepernick has been a free agent since March of this year. Earlier this month filed a grievance against NFL owners, accusing them of colluding to keep him out of the NFL in retaliation of his views on social justice. He stated that he was protesting police brutality and racial injustice. Now it appears that he has signed a $1 million dollar book deal. Has Kaepernick affected the news and our lives?
The Person of the Year will be announced soon, but until then, it is very tight lipped who the nominees actually are. You can get a full list of potential Time Magazine's "2017 Person of the Year" nominees here.
