The countdown is on and the current Kentucky Derby 2013 odds show 5 contenders with 15/1 betting odds. According to the current betting odds on the Kentucky Derby, there are three entries that are clear favorites to win the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby. These horses include VERRAZANO (4/1), ORB (7/2) and GOLDENCENTS (5/1), but like many of the Derbies in the past, it's not always the odds favorite who wins.
Case in point was in 2009 when Calvin Borel shocked the horse racing world with a Kentucky Derby victory on MINE THAT BIRD. A 50/1 longshot, Borel and trainer David Cotey took the victory and paid bettors $103.20. If you took MINE THAT BIRD in a $ trifecta it would have paid $20,750.30 and if you were bold enough to go for the Superfecta, you would have cashed a ticket worth $278,503.20.
So with that said, betting value on horses with not so favorite odds can pay of big. In the 2013 Kentucky Derby there are five Derby entries with 15/1 odds at the time of this article and paying attention to how and if their odds move can be profitable.
MYLUTE ran to a second place finish in the Louisiana Derby, OVERANALYZE just won the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, ITSMYLUCKYDAY has finished out of the money only twice in nine career starts, JAVA'S WAR took a resounding win in the Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes and VYJACK recently won the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes to remain unbeaten at Aqueduct. All of these Kentucky Derby 2013 contenders are 15/1 with a decent shot at winning the Derby.
