We had hoped Bob Baffert's GOVENOR CHARLIE was going to make the Kentucky Derby, but Baffert opted the three year old out of the Derby for the shorter Preakness Stakes. The current Preakness odds show GOVENOR CHARLIE as a betting favorite with 10/1 odds.
Owned by Michael E. Pegram, GOVENOR CHARLIE has back-to-back wins and second place finish with only three career starts. In his first outing GOVENOR CHARLIE was edged out by Let'Em Shine in a 6 furlong race. In his second attempt at 1 mile, GOVENOR CHARLIE finished a first and followed that up with another win going 1 1/16 at the Sunland Derby (G3) on March 24th, 2013. With seven weeks rest GOVENOR CHARLIE could be a real threat to spoil ORB's Triple Crown hopes.
Making a Preakness exacta wager on GOVENOR CHARLIE and ORB may not be a huge value, but could be a winning Preakness pick for Saturday.
We will be posting a Trifecta wagers prior to post time, so check back for our insight on the best bets for the Preakness Stakes.
