MLB Playoff Predictions: Return of the Long Ball? Conventional wisdom of Major League Baseball supports the theory that good pitching always beats good hitting. This year we officially have seen 5 no-hitters. Some would argue that there would be 6 if not for a certain "bad call". Many have referred 2010 as a "year of the pitcher". Also supporting that reference is the number of home runs hit by the home run leaders at the All Star break are significantly less than home runs hit in previous years. The recent lack of long balls may also be contributed to MLB's better drug testing and less use of PED's.
Tuesday's and Wednesday's MLB picks matchups featured a resurgence of home runs, as the hitters may be starting to catch up with the tired arms of the pitchers. The Arizona Diamondbacks tied a major league record by hitting " back to back to back to back" home runs in the fourth inning of yesterday's 8-2 MLB picks victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. This is only the seventh time in MLB history that the feat has been accomplished. I personally witnessed many hurlers throwing fastballs that were too high in the strike zone and hitters smashing them over the walls and fences.
In Thursday's MLB Predictions ten games, 8 of the top 10 home run hitting teams are playing. In the American League the Vegas World Series Prediction favorites, the New York Yankees, are the the 4th best hitting team in MLB. Led by Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia and slugger Mark Teixeira are a lead pipe cinch to beat the homer challenged Kansas City Chiefs.
Also in the A.L. the rubber game pitting the Chicago White Sox against the Minnesota Twins will put the MLB picks winner one game ahead in the heated contest for the A.L. Central. Good pitchers and hitters on both sides. This MLB predictions matchup is a coin flip.
The National League MLB Predictions Games feature the Phillies whom remain in contention for the N.L. East title, and are also one game behind in the Wild card race play the Dodgers in L.A.. I'm taking Joe Torre's club in this MLB picks matchup. Two of the top 10 teams in MLB go at it in Milwaukee as the Diamondbacks take on the Brewers.
Take the Brewers at home. Happy Thursday!
