159 games in the book, 3 games left. For many of the 2010 MLB Predictions playoff teams, these are the most important games of the regular season. None of the first round matchups have been decided, as teams continue to battle for home field advantage and favorable opponents.
It’s the proverbial bottom of the ninth for the San Diego Padres. They need to sweep the final three games of the season and win a one-game playoff against the San Francisco Giants to win the N.L. West. The Padre’s are two games behind the Braves in the N.L.’s wild card and can only pray that the Brave’s lose two out of their last three at home against the Philadelphia Phillies. Too many Ifs…
I’m going to stick my neck out a bit and predict that the Braves will play the Giants, and the Phillies will play the Red’s in the N.L. Divisional Playoffs. The Brave’s are Las Vegas odds favorites at -165 to win Friday and the Padres are +140 underdogs in San Francisco.
Of all the MLB Predictions playoff teams, the A.L.’s Texas Rangers have the worst road record. The Tampa Bay Ray’s and the New York Yankee’s, whoever wins the N.L. East gets home field advantage in the first round against the Ranger’s. The loser goes to Minnesota.
Something to watch for in Friday’s games… the performances of the starting pitchers’ for the Ray’s, Yankee’s and the Twins. James Shields (T.B.), Andy Pettitte (N.Y.), and Carl Pavano (Minn.), are all coming off of rough outings last time out and will play major factors on their teams post season success. All three teams are Las Vegas odds favorites to win on Friday. Look for Yankee’s SP Andy Pettite to have the hardest time, as he goes up against Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Boston Red Sox.
