Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas Nevada hosts the 2017 Monster Energy Cup on October 14, 2017. Practice and Qualifying begin at 12:00 p.m. with the first race start at 6:30 p.m. PT. The world’s top Supercross riders battle for the Monster Energy Cup and a chance to win a $1,000,000 purse if a rider can win all 3 events in the one-night-only head to head competition.
The Supercross riders compete in three 10-lap main events. The track has a split starting gate which is elevated 12 feet. Eleven riders line up on each side of the gate within the 44 foot length. This years track has a portion which is built over the top of stadium seating and features a Jokers Lane which each rider must maneuver once during each main event.
“The Joker Lane has always been a disadvantage to the athletes as it traditionally takes longer to complete,” said Carmichael, who has helped design every Monster Energy Cup track since its inception in 2011. “However, this year’s Joker Lane design has been modified to play into the racer’s advantage, creating a shortcut through the track to shorten the lap time.”
Only one rider has taken home the $1,000,000 purse, Ryan Villopoto in 2011. This is the seventh running of the race, maybe it will be the lucky number for another Supercross rider.
Pro Riders that are expected to race include 2016 reigning Monster Energy Cup Champion Eli Tomac from Colorado riding for Monster Energy Kawasaki who is in 2nd at the end of 2017 season only 5 points behind the Champion Ryan Dungey who has since retired. The French Rider Marvin Musquin who is the 2017 season 3rd place finisher who rides for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and was 2016 Monster Energy Supercross Rookie of the Year. Jason Anderson from New Mexico who rides for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing the 2016 4th place winner. Josh Grant placed 10th at the end of the season rides a Monster Energy Kawasaki and hails from California. 13th place Cooper Webb from North Carolina, the 2015 & 2016 250sx Western Regional Champion, will not be competing in the 2017 Monster Energy Cup due to a thumb injury sustained at the Monster Energy MXGP of USA.
Las Vegas will also give opportunity to some Amateur All Star and Supermini racers to compete in two 6-lap main events. The Amateur race is by invite only.

This year the road to Las Vegas was an exciting trip, Villopoto locked up the 2013 Supercross Championship last week in Salt Lake City, so this year's Las Vegas Supercross finale was all about second place. Although every rider on the track always wants to finish first, Dungey and Millsaps were the only two riders battling to lockup second place in the Championship.
The 2013 Supercross series ended with Villopoto clinching his third Supercross Championship, Davi Millsaps takes second and Ryan Dungey takes third. In the 250 WEST Supercross Series it was Ken Roczen who took the Championship. In the 250 East Will Hahn who clinched the 2013 Supercross Championship.
Next, its on to the outdoors and the AMA Motocross Series kicks-off with a bar-bashing start on May 18th at Hangtown.
The 3013 Supercross Champion has been crowned and Ryan Villopoto joins the elite with three back-to-back Championships. The gate drop and Villopoto got out in front and sealed his spot among the elite Supercross champions. Davi Millsaps and Ryan Dungey battled through the Salt Lake City race but were unable to catch Villopoto. The 2013 Supercross series now heads to Las Vegas but will not be as exciting since Ryan Villopoto has already put a lock on the 2013 Supercross Championship.
Lapped traffic almost came into play as the top three lapped deep into the pack, including lapping Chad Reed who finished tenth. The points race is now down to second and third for the 2013 Supercross Championship. Dungey has a chance to take second with only three points separating him from Millsaps.
Supercross now heads to Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas for the Final round of the 2013 Supercross Series.
