NFL Week Two Predictions: If last week’s NFL predictions contest on MNF between the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets was a “loud” game, this week’s NFL week two predictions contest between the Ravens (1-0) and the Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) has its own sound track. The Vegas odds have Baltimore has a -2(-110) point road NFL predictions favorite in this AFC North Division showdown. The Bengals swept the NFL picks season series a year ago so revenge should be on the minds of the Ravens.
There was nothing pretty about the Ravens 10-9 NFL predictions victory over the Jets. The NFL picks showdown featured lots of hard-hitting defensive play, and plenty of mistakes by both teams. The Ravens turned the ball over three times and, though they had nearly 300 yards in total offense, it took them 75 plays to get there. The Ravens rushing attack was particularly anemic against what was a tough run defense. For the night, the Ravens rushed 35 times but gained only 49 yards for a paltry 1.4 yard average per rush. The Ravens will have to do much better against the Bengals if they want to start the NFL predictions season 2-0. With the rushing game stifled, quarterback Joe Flacco did his part, throwing for nearly 250 yards, and finding his newest target, Anquan Boldin 7 times for 110 yards. Tight Todd Heap also had a good game, hauling in six catches. Flacco needed to protect the ball better, though, as he was responsible for 2 of team’s turnovers on a fumble and an interception.
Against the Bengals, look for the Ravens to establish the run behind Ray Rice early in the NFL week 2 predictions matchup. The Bengals, in getting behind 31-3 at New England, couldn’t stop the run or the pass as the Patriots chewed-up 376 yards on offense, including a number of big plays. Flacco is not Tom Brady but the Bengals proved vulnerable against the pass, especially in the slot, so Boldin could have a huge NFL picks game this week. Rice should also find way more running room as the Patriots ran at a 5.1 average yard per carry clip.
The Bengals must pick-up the pressure on the quarterback; they had no sacks and only 2 quarterback hits on Brady. Cincinnati does have talented players on defense such as linebackers Keith Rivers and Rey Maualuga as well as an impact corner in Johnathan Joseph but they need to show something at home against the Ravens. Look for more rush blitzes by the Bengals and tighter corner play on the Ravens outside guys.
This game, as clichéd as it sounds, will come down to which team hits harder in the trenches. If the Ravens can establish the run in Sunday's NFL week two predictions contest, the Bengals will be on their heels again. Look for the Ravens to cover and send the Bengals reeling at 0-2.
