With both teams coming-off losses in which their offenses struggled, the match-up between the New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans will be a pivotal non-conference game in week of the NFL season. Vegas odds have made the Giants a +3 favorite at home. These two teams are unfamiliar foes, having met only twice in the past ten years, with the Titans winning both games in tight contests.
The Giants (1-1) suffered a 38-14 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night as big bro Peyton thoroughly outplayed Eli Manning. Offensively, Eli could not get anything going against the Colts defense, passing for only 161 yards on a night he made only 13 completions. Eli was also pressured consistently and was sacked four times. All and all, it was a night to forget and the Giants look to rebound against the Titans. They can start with the ground game. Ahmad Bradshaw has run well in two games and could success against the Titans front seven, and the Giants would love to get Brandon Jacobs rolling, though the bridge is slowly burning in New York.
Tennessee (1-1) lost a tough game at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers 19-11 in a game in which the Titans turned over the ball 7 times. The defense played well enough to win, allowing Pittsburgh to gain only 127 total yards, and holding down the score despite the turnovers. On a hot day, the Titans rotated their defensive linemen and both DE Jason Babin and linebacker Steve Tulloch had big games as the Steelers stayed conservative on offense, running the ball 33 times to protect their quarterbacks. Babin will need to get in the face of Manning and, if the front-seven can control the ground game, the Titans can have success on defense.
Look for Titans to make just enough plays behind Chris Johnson to beat the Vegas odds and pull-off a narrow victory.
