This match-up of non-conference from the west coast features a top five passing offense against one of the worst passing defenses as the San Diego Chargers (1-1) invade Qwest Field to take on the Seattle Seahawks (1-1). Vegas odds has listed the Chargers as 5-point favorites to win on the road.
Philip Rivers has thrown for over 600 yards and five touchdowns for the San Diego Chargers while spreading the ball around to ten different receivers. Malcolm Floyd has become a favored receiver but reliable tight end Antonio Gates is still the leading receiver and leads the team in touchdowns. The running game has been sporadic and, last week against Jacksonville, Mike Tolbert provided a big lift with two rushing touchdowns in relief of an injured Ryan Mathews. Tolbert is expected to start against the Seahawks.
Seattle has one of the worst pass defenses in the league through two games and has a big challenge against the San Diego passing attack. Rivers will go right after a secondary that has intercepted the ball two times and has allowed opponents to average 259 yards passing per game. The Seahawks do have some playmakers on defense including linebacker Lofa Tatupu and safety Jordan Babineaux. Seattle has compiled 3 sacks on the season and must not allow Rivers time in the pocket.
Rivers should have a big game and, unless Seattle can find a way to slow down one of the top offenses in the NFL, they could be in for a long day. San Diego should cover the Vegas spread and walk out of Qwest field with a win.
