The Arizona Cardinals have been a playoff team the past two seasons but they suffered a deflating loss against the Atlanta Falcons a week ago, and host the Oakland Raiders (1-1) in week three of the NFL season with redemption on their minds. Vegas odds have the Cardinals as 4 1/2 point favorites as the home team.
The Cardinals (1-1) were dominated by Atlanta by a score of 41-7. The Falcons rung-up 33 first downs, and 444 total yards of offense while holding Arizona to only 267 yards. Other than running back Tim Hightower and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, the Cards didn’t have much production. Derek Anderson did not have his best day as a quarterback and finished with a paltry 42.5 rating with two interceptions, and was finally replaced by Max Hall. Anderson will start this week and he needs to find someone other than Fitzgerald as a target. Steve Breason had a good week one game but was invisible against the Falcons.
After being blown out by Tennessee in the first game, Oakland’s defense limited the St. Louis Rams in their last outing to just 210 yards of total offense, and held the Rams to 2-10 on third down. Overall, the defense played well, with 5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and an interception. Linebacker Kamerion Wimbley has led the way with 10 tackles and 2 sacks, while Tyvon Branch has led the team in tackles and also has a sack.
With the Cardinals struggling on offense, the Raiders have a chance to steal this game if they can muster any offense. Look for the Raiders to cover in this contest, if not win outright on the road.
