Who would have thought this would be one of the games of the week when the season started? But, in week five of the NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts vs. the Kansas City Chiefs has become an intriguing match-up. Vegas odds have placed the Colts as -7 point favorite at home.
The Colts (2-2) dropped a shocking decision against the Jacksonville Jaguars as Josh Scobee kicked a 59-yard game-winning field goal as time elapsed. Indianapolis melted down twice in the fourth quarter, allowing the Jags to tie the game and, eventually, win the game at the end. The Jaguars gained 337 yards and were 9-13 in third down situations. The Colts could generate no pass rush and had no turnovers. The Colts have given-up 34 and 31 points in loses and 14 and 13 and victories. Indianapolis is also near last in the league in rushing defense. Part of their inconsistency has been the lack of a pass rush other than their outside DE tandem and, with no Bob Sanders, the secondary has been hamstrung.
Kansas City (3-0) is the lone undefeated team in the NFL and that is a shocking statement. The Chiefs have forged their early season record on big plays on special teams, tough defense, and, last game, finally the offense emerged from an early slumber. Matt Cassel passed for 250 yards and three touchdown passes against San Francisco, including the first touchdown catch of 2010 for Dwayne Bowe. Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones have been an effective 1-2 punch, giving the Chiefs the third best rushing offense in the league.
Can Kansas City keep it going? The odds, including Vegas odds, are against the Chiefs from keeping their winning streak alive as the Indianapolis Colts bounce back, cover the spread, and get back on the winning track.
