The New York Giants have been inconsistent this season winning two of three at home and getting blown out on the road. They have also struggled against the AFC South, losing to both the Colts and the Titans. Now, the Giants travel to Houston to face the first place Houston Texans (3-1) who are looking to establish themselves as a playoff contender. Vegas odds have picked the Texans as -3 favorites at home.
New York (2-2) owns a balanced offense that ranks in the top ten in both rushing and passing yardage. Eli Manning has added to the inconsistency, throwing 5 TDs and 6 INTs, with his three receivers, Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith, and Mario Manningham as his primary targets. Manningham has been the deep threat while Nicks leads the team in touchdown catches. The running game has really picked-up steam with both Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs gaining over 5 yards per carry. The Giants will use a ball control offense to keep the Houston offense off the field.
Houston has been able to shut down the run, ranking 2nd overall in rushing yardage in the NFL. Leading tackler is Bernard Pollard from the safety position but DeMeco Ryans has also made plays on defense. The pass defense has only generated two interceptions, all by Troy Nolan, and they will need to come-up big against Manning and his receivers.
The Texans have handled all the early season challenges and are up for this team as well. Look for Houston to cover the spread, win the game, and solidify their status in the AFC South.
