Starting in August with their appearance on HBO’s Hard Knocks, the New York Jets (3-1) have been making news with their mouths and off-field antics. On MNF, in the biggest stage of the NFL week five, they will be upstaged by a guy who has made a career capturing attention, and not all of it good.
Randy Moss will be making his debut in his second go-around with the Minnesota Vikings (1-2) and all eyes will be on #84. The Jets, though, are -4 1/2 point favorites at home.
While Brett Favre and the offense for the Vikings has struggled, Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets have been on a roll as of late. Sanchez has thrown 8 TDS against no interceptions and has a passer rating of 105.3. He has found a big target in tight end Dustin Keller who has five touchdowns among his 19 catches. Braylon Edwards, despite off-field trouble, has been a consistent deep threat with an 18.9 average yards per catch. LaDanian Tomlinson has had a rebirth with 341 yards rushing and 6.1 average yards per rush. He has also had three touchdowns.
Tomlinson, though, will find tough sledding against the Vikings rushing defense, which ranks in the top ten in the NFL. Kevin and Pat Williams once again are clogging-up the middle allowing Chad Greenway and E. J. Henderson to make tackles. The Vikings have struggled getting sacks, though, and have forced only five touchdowns. Sanchez will look for Keller against the safeties of the Vikings and Lito Sheppard most likely will cover Edwards.
This is a tough match-up for the Jets offense so the game will be close. Look for the Vikings to cover the spread but the Jets to win in a close game.
