Starting in August with their appearance on HBO’s Hard Knocks, the New York Jets (3-1) have been making news with their mouths and off-field antics. On MNF, in the biggest stage of the NFL week five, they will be upstaged by a guy who has made a career capturing attention, and not all of it good.
Randy Moss will be making his debut in his second go-around with the Minnesota Vikings (1-2) and all eyes will be on #84. The Jets, though, are -4 1/2 point favorites at home.
The Vikings have struggled to find their rhythm offensively, especially in the passing game where Brett Favre has struggled since the injury to his top downfield receiver Sydney Rice. Without Rice, the leading receiver has been Percy Harvin with 12 catches but has averaged under nine yards per catch. Favre has only thrown 2 touchdown passes against 6 INTs so he has got to be a happy guy going into the Monday Night game. Adrian Peterson has taken-up the slack, compiling nearly 400 yards with three touchdowns. He will also benefit from the addition of Moss as defenses will have to back-off the line of scrimmage.
Defensively, the Jets have excelled against the run, ranking 4th in the NFL in run defense, and will be focused on stopping Peterson. The defense has been active, overall, with 9 turnovers and 8 sacks, and is led by linebacker Bart Scott. Darrelle Revis, the Jets star cornerback, is listed as probable so look for Revis vs Moss II. Revis has gotten the best of Moss but, on a big stage in a big game, money should be on Moss to get the ball and get into the end zone.
The Jets have found their mojo in recent weeks and, as a team, are on a roll. Moss, though, infuses the Vikings with energy and big-game talent. The Vikings cover in a close game, but the Jets continue to roll with a win at home.
