Saints vs Bucs Week 6 NFL Picks, NFL Predictions & Vegas Odds: How could a team fielding an undrafted rookie at starting quarterback defeat the defending Super Bowl champs despite being outgained by 164 yards? That is the question that the New Orleans Saints asked themselves last week after their 30-20 NFL picks loss to the Arizona Cardinals. While quarterback Max Hall didn’t beat the Saints, he didn’t lose the NFL predictions contest either, unlike New Orleans, who committed four turnovers, a half-dozen penalties, and couldn’t convert on third down.
The Saints (3-2) now find themselves looking up in the standings at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1). Vegas odds makers still has faith in the Saints, though, and have installed New Orleans as a -4(-110) point NFL predictions favorite on the road. Tampa and New Orleans have played fairly evenly over the years, and the two teams split the NFL picks contest over the past two years.
New Orleans still has the #5 ranked passing offense but the run game, which was such a key in the 2009 championship season, has abandoned them, ranking #31 in the NFL. Drew Brees has 9 touchdowns and 1,400 yards passing and has spread the ball around with seven different receivers collecting 10 or more catches. The run game has been a real disappointment, though, with Pierre Thomas rushing for just a 3.3 average per rush. Opponents have run all over Tampa Bay’s 30th ranked run defense so the opportunities could be there for the Saints to find their running game in today's week 6 NFL picks contest. Tampa’s secondary has intercepted 9 balls, including two in the waning minutes of their 24-21 NFL predictions victory over the Bengals last week, but they have gotten little pressure on Brees and that could be a problem.
Tampa Bay4 hasn’t frightened anyone on offense this NFL picks season but they have generated enough to win the close games. Wide receiver Mike Williams has quickly developed into Josh Freeman’s #1 target and has caught three touchdowns. Freeman still has lots to learn but he is mobile with a strong arm. Jonathan Vilma leads the Saints in tackles but the team is not getting the consistent big plays from their team defense that they did a year ago. The Saints are a top ten team on defense against the pass, but they have forced juts 8 turnovers but have no defensive touchdowns. Teams have run on the Saints, sometimes at will, but Tampa’s ground game has been dormant most of the season.
New Orleans should not disappoint two weeks in a row and should cover the spread in today's NFL predictions contest on the road against the young Bucs.
