NFL Predictions: Coaches on the Hot Seat?

There should be, if there isn’t already a Las Vegas line on which NFL head coaches will be terminated in 2010. No one likes to see a fellow human being lose their job (nah…some of us do), but in today’s professional sports atmosphere we have learned to accept the fact that more often than not, the coaches get the blame for their teams lack of success, and hence the first to go. The clock is ticking.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has repeatedly stated that coach Wade Phillips job is secure for this year and is not “currently” thinking about dismissing him. “Currently” doesn’t mean five minutes ago or five minutes from now. The Cowboy’s are the most under-achieving group in the NFL and one single playoff win in 2009 isn’t enough. Wade’s got to go.

The San Francisco 49er’s was predicted by many to win the NFC West (mostly by default). The 49er’s finally won their first 2010 NFL Predictions game in week six and sits at the bottom of the division. It seems like coach Mike Singletary can’t bully his way to the top. The San Francisco 49’ers are Las Vegas favorites at -3 eke out another win at Carolina against the Panthers this Sunday. I’m going to throw the Panther’s and coach John Fox (who’s job may also be on the line) a NFL Predictions bone and pick them to upset the 49’ers at home on October 24th.

I personally would put Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith on the proverbially hot seat, as he seems content to letting QB Jake Cutler get killed every week. The Bears are Las Vegas odds -3 point favorites to beat the Washington Redskins. I’m picking Redskins coach Mike Shanahan over Lovie and the Bears. The beating Cutler takes every week is getting hand to stomach.

Let’s not end this piece on a negative note, (although if I was the coach of the Buffalo Bills or the Cleveland Browns I might be a bit worried). Coach Mike Tomlin has done a tremendous job juggling quarterbacks in Pittsburgh, leading the Steelers’ to a 4-1 record atop the AFC North. Fellow AFC coaches Rex Ryan and Bill Belichick performances should also be commended. The Jet’s get a bye week this Sunday and both the Steelers’ and Patriots’ are Vegas +3 point dogs. Give me break, New England is an underdog to the San Diego Chargers????
