No Michael Vick has been no problem for the Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) as quarterback Kevin Kolb has regained his starting job and led the Eagles to a big victory last week. In week seven of the NFL season, he has a big test against the Tennessee Titans (4-2) in a key non-conference match-up and one of the better games of the week.
Vegas has installed the Titans as -3 point favorites at home.
Kolb, on the season for the Eagles, has more passing yards and a better completion percentage than Vick, but will be without one of his team top receivers, DeSean Jackson, who has been ruled out with a concussion for the game. Receiver Jeremy Maclin did well in his stead against the Falcons and is the Eagles #1 receiver. Look for running back LeSean McCoy and tight end Brent Celek to get more involved in the offense too. McCoy continues to give the Eagles a dynamic running game, with 5 rushing TDs, and a 4.8 average yards per carry.
Tennessee has done a good job shutting down the run game this season, allowing only one rushing touchdown, and, by the way, the Titans feature a stud running back of their own in Chris Johnson. CJ has gained 596 yards and is on pace for about 1,600 yards on the season. He has scored 7 touchdowns. The Titans’ passing game is improving but Vince Young’s status for the game is still in question. He was injured against the Jaguars but should play. He has thrown for 7 touchdowns and emerging receiver Kenny Britt has caught four of them. The Eagles, meanwhile, have been strong defensively against the pass, with nine interceptions and 18 sacks. Trent Cole and surprising Juqua Parker lead the way in sacks. Philadelphia, though, has given up 115 yards per game on the ground, meaning CJ may have another big game.
This is a tight game to call, with Philadelphia playing surprisingly well, and Tennessee a hot team, winning two in a row. Tennessee should hold serve at home, cover the spread, and win this game with the help of Johnson’s legs.
