Other than their blow-out loss against the St. Louis Rams, the Washington Redskins (3-3) have played-in a bunch of tight games and this week’s NFC conference match-up against the Chicago Bears (4-2) at Chicago in week seven of the NFL season should be no different. Vegas has installed the Bears as -3 point favorites at home.
Washington kept the game close against the Indianapolis Colts in a 27-24 loss on Sunday night, and, with 5 of their 6 games decided by a score or less, the Redskins have made a habit of both winning and losing tight ball games. In their wins, the Skins have relied on a defense that ranks near the bottom of the league in yardage allowed to hold the score down. Safety LaRon Landry has been their leading tackler and one of their best defenders in the secondary, while Brian Orakpo has provided the pressure up front with five sacks. Overall, though, the defense has only forced 11 turnovers, including 4 INTs, and they have had trouble sustaining pressure up front.
The same could be said of the first-place Bears’ offense. Chicago is near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories and, after a 3-0 start, they have lost two of their previous three. Jay Culter threw for 290 yards upon his return from a concussion but he has cooled-off after a hot start. The line is a mess too and Bears’ QBs have been sacked 27 times. Matt Forte and Chester Taylor are starting to gain traction in the running game but this is an offense that seems to have too few weapons. Relying on Devin Hester to return kicks for TDs each week seems a reach. The defense, led by Brian Urlacher, has been stingy, especially against the run and is the reason the Bears have stayed atop the struggling NFC North.
The Redskins, behind Donovan McNabb, have had their share of struggles on offense too so look for a low-scoring defensive game. The Vegas over/under is 40 in this contest so go for the under and look for the Redskins, with help from McNabb, to cover the Vegas spread and pull-off a road upset in this contest.
