NFL Predictions Week 8 - Dolphins vs. Bengals 2010 NFL Vegas Odds 7 NFL Picks: Facing third and goal in last week's NFL predictions contest and holding a 1-point lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Miami Dolphins for a last gasp defensive stand. Ben Roethlisberger was stripped of the ball diving into the end zone, a bevy of Miami defenders converged on the ball, just as the official blew the whistle and signaled touchdown. Coach Tony Sparano threw the red flag and the decision was overturned. Pittsburgh had fumbled and Miami recovered, right? Wrong! The review could not determine who recovered the ball in the ensuing scrum and Pittsburgh was rewarded the ball at the half-yard line. Jeff Reed kicked a field goal and the Dolphins could not respond with a last minute drive of their own. Game over but, in the Dolphins’ minds, the wrong team won that NFL picks match-up.
Miami (3-3) will have to recover quickly as they travel to face the Cincinnati Bengals (2-4). Vegas odds makers have placed the Bengals as -1(-110) point NFL picks favorites at home.
Like many teams in the NFL this NFL picks season, the Dolphins have had an up-and-down season, winning and losing their share of close NFL predictions contests. Statistically, they are in the middle of the pack in every meaningful category, reflecting their middle-of-the-road NFL picks record. Chad Henne has provided the Dolphins with a passing game for the first time in a half-decade but big free-agent signee Brandon Marshall has yet to provide the scoring impact. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams still provide a good combination on the ground but the Wildcat seems dead. On defense, linebackers Karlos Dansby and Cameron Wake are playmakers.
The Bengals (2-4) have lost three consecutive NFL predictions games and the sum of the parts do not seem to equal the whole. With Carson Palmer and Terrell Owens, the team owns the NFL’s sixth ranked passing attack but the running game has been inconsistent and, after a strong start, the defense has become a sieve as of late. The 39 points the Falcons put-up in last week's NFL picks contest were a season high against the Bengals. The team has struggled getting a pass rush and, other than cornerback Leon Hall with four interceptions, the secondary chas been unable to make big plays this NFL predictions season.
With their season hanging in the balance, the Bengals need to come out and get a NFL picks victory. The urgency should pay-off. Look for Cincinnati to cover the Vegas spread in a NFL predictions contest that could come down to the last possession.
