Could there be any two quarterbacks more different in style of play and personality in Mike Vick and Peyton Manning? The two marquee quarterbacks square off as Vick returns from injury to lead the Philadelphia Eagles (4-3) against the Indianapolis Colts (5-2). Vegas has picked the Eagles as -3 point favorites at home.
These two teams have met infrequently in recent years but this is a marquee match-up, especially now that Vick is ready to play. Vick was as hot as any quarterback in the league before his injury with 6 TDs against 0 INTs and he will get playmaker DeSean Jackson back too, who has been out with a concussion sustained against the Falcons three weeks ago. In his absence, Jeremy Maclin has come into his own and is the Eagles leading receiver with 30 catches and 6 TD receptions. LeSean McCoy has performed well as a dual threat running and receiving and the Eagles have had a dynamic offense. Defensively, the Eagles have done well in limiting opponent’s passing games but have struggled at times against the run.
Manning will present a huge challenge for the Eagles pass defenders, even though he is missing weapons in Dallas Clark and Austin Collie. The Colts average over 300 yards passing per game and young players such as Jacob Tamme, Blair White, and Anthony Gonzalez have been asked to play large roles complementing vet Reggie Wayne. On defense, the Colts have allowed only 8 touchdown passes all season and have held opponents to just over 200 yards passing a game. Indianapolis has not had a big sack total or many interceptions but they have done job breaking-up passes with 32 passes defended on the season.
Manning vs. Vick should be an exciting match-up but the Colts defense against the pass might be the biggest key to this game. Look for Indianapolis to cover the Vegas spread and steal a game on the road in a tough venue.
