This is a game perfect for prime time viewing on Thanksgiving night on the NFL Network with such big personalities as Terrell Owens and Rex Ryan clash during week twelve of the NFL season. Yet, the match-up between the Cincinnati Bengals (2-8) and New York Jets (8-2) would have been much better if the Bengals season hadn’t crumbled like a wet paper bag. Vegas has placed as the Jets as -8 1/2 favorites, not giving Cincinnati much chance either.
The Bengals season has officially unraveled after seven straight losses, including an embarrassing loss to the Buffalo Bills, 49-31, last week. Cincinnati led 31-14 at the half before surrendering 35 unanswered points to a 1-win Buffalo team. The Bengals turned the ball over three times and allowed 449 yards of total offense to the Bills. The thud of the other shoe dropping could be heard all across the Queen City. The Bengals have weapons, no question, especially in Carson Palmer and Owens, who has 897 yards in receiving and 8 TDs. Yet, this is a team in free fall and the Jets should be thankful to have this opponent next on their schedule.
Looking at the Jets season, though, it would be hard for the team or their fans to take any opponent lightly. New York has walked a precarious tight rope the past three weeks, defeating the Houston Texans on a last second TD pass from Mark Sanchez to Santonio Holmes to win the game 30-27. This effort after two straight OT wins over Detroit and Cleveland. The Jets have shown they can pound the Bengals by running the football and expect the same type of game plan that knocked Cincinnati out of last year’s playoffs. New York has been vulnerable to the pass all season so look for Owens to get loose in the Jets’ secondary for another big game yet with similar results.
The Jets should win this game. The only question is can they cover the Vegas spread? Recent history suggests no but, in this case, with the Bengals season done, look for TO and the boys to mail this game in, and the Jets win in a rout.
