It will be the battle of goalies as the Montreal Canadiens (27-18-5) and Carey Price versus the Florida Panthers (22-22-5) and Tomas Vokoun.
Though the Panthers have struggled to reach the .500 mark, Vokoun has been at the top of his game this season with a 17-16-3 record, 2.51 GAA, .923 save percentage, and five shutouts, all that despite facing over 1,100 shots. Florida is on the fringe of playoff contention and how the team performs in these next several weeks leading-up to the trading deadline will determine whether Vokoun is still with the team or shipped off to a contender.
Montreal has been battling the Boston Bruins for dominance atop the Northwest Division for most of the season in large part due to Price’s excellence. After a season in which he lost his top spot as goalie, Price has rebounded to be perhaps the best goalie north of Beantown. An All-Star this season, Price has a record of 24-16-5, a sterling 2.36 GAA, a .920 save percentage, and four shutouts. Price has also been an Iron Man, playing over 2,600 minutes of hockey this season.
After reaching the conference finals last season, Montreal has struggled to find its offensive game (playoff star Mike Cammalleri has only 13 goals) so the team has leaned on Price, and he has delivered.
