UFC News - Faber vs. Bowles who ever wins will get a title shot

In a frenzy of fight announcements last night, UFC president Dana White said that the Urijah Faber versus Brian Bowles fight at UFC 139 would be for the next crack at the bantamweight strap.

Can't say enough about the fairness of the matchmaking here. Demetrious Johnson, who fights Cruz on Oct. 1 in Washington for the belt, is justified for the chance by winning four in a row, his latest against Miguel Torres at UFC 130. UFC Vegas Odds will list Faber as the favorite.

Meanwhile, Bowles was largely thought to be a fight away from that shot, and to saddle him against Faber in a title eliminator is smart. It's a battle of two former champions with a promisingly compelling aftermath. Stylistically, neither match-up can go wrong, either.

"Before a possible trilogy can be considered between Urijah Faber and his rival, champion Dominick Cruz, he will take on one of the division's truly elite fighters, former bantamweight champion Brian Bowles," he said. "A win over Faber would be massive for Bowles' bid to challenge for the belt that was once his. The stakes are high and the fight will be intense."
