Early predictions for the Preakness Stakes are in and Justify is the vegas odds makers top pick again.  The Preakness will be on May 19th with a $1.5 million dollar purse.  The Preakness is expected to have an eight-horse field.  Post positions will be drawn on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.  The betting odds favorite Justify (-250) won the Kentucky Derby by two and a half lengths ignoring the rain and muddy conditions. Mike E. Smith hopes to ride Justify to his second win of the Triple Crown races.  Lone Sailor is listed at +2500 with Irad Ortiz Jr. as his rider.  Lone Sailor came in eight in the derby and runner-up in the Louisiana Derby.  Ortiz won the 2016 Belmont and has three Breeders Cup wins.  

Good Magic (+300) was the Kentucky Derby runner-up and according the trainer Chad Brown he "deserves this chance".  Jockey Jose Ortiz has Good Magic's reigns.   Bravazo trained by D. Wayne Lukas finished six at the derby and Luis Saez has the mount.  The vegas odds makers list Bravazo at +1800.   Another Lukas entry is Sporting Chance listed at (+2500).  Sporting Chance's jockey is Luis Contreras.  Javier Castellano who is a two time Preakness winner is riding Diamond King (+1600) .  Quip ran a 48.20 second half mile final timed workout.  Quip won the Tampa Bay derby and was runner-up at the Arkansas Derby.  Quip (+1600) was held out of the Kentucky Derby to concentrate on the Preakness.  Quip will be mounted by Florent Geroux.   Last but not least, Tenfold (+2500) is the son of Curlin, the 2007 Preakness winner, and trained by Steve Asmussen.  Tenfold won his first two 2018 races is listed at 25/1.  

Can Quip, Sporting Chance, Diamond King and Tenfold beat Justify in their first meeting?   The track conditions look like they might mirror that of the Kentucky Derby, muddy.  Marylands forecaster's summary for the week is cold and rainy with moderate winds.
