NHL Preview: Vancouver vs. Washington

Two of the best teams in the National Hockey League will meet-up in DC as the Vancouver Canucks (28-8-6) versus the Washington Capitals (24-13-7). The Canucks are the hottest team in the NHL right now with a 9-0-1 record in their past ten games while the Capitals, while not quite as hot, are 6-1-3 in their past ten.

This game features offensive talent all over the rink. The Caps can trot out 13 skaters with 4 goals or more led by Alexander Semin (18) and Alex Ovchekin (15). Ovchekin only has 2 power play goals so he is due.

No team has been better in the past month and this season than the Canucks. In December, Vancouver was 11-1-2 and have followed-up with a 5-0-1 start in January. The Canucks are led by the Sedin twins, and Daniel and Henrik both led the team with 55 points. Daniel is the goal-scorer with 25 while Henrik has been the playmaker with 46 assists. The Canucks also feature 24-goal scorer Ryan Kessler and +18 defenseman in Kevin Bieksa. Roberto Luongo has been hot in goal with 20 wins and a 2.34 GAA.

This will be Vancouver’s second game in two nights on their East Coast swing to New York and Washington so they might be a bit flat, though playing the Caps should help.
