The 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs are underway and in Round 1 of the Western Conference we saw the San Jose Sharks leave the Anaheim Ducks scoreless in a 3-0 betting odds game. Sharks Martin Jones had a perfect game with 25 saves. The first and third periods of play were scoreless. The first two goals came from Evander Kane in his Stanley Cup Playoff debut followed by the third and final goal by defensemen Brent Burns.
The Ducks (-135) had three power play opportunities but could not score. The hard hitting Ducks dished out 41 hits and 13 blocks but could not stop the Sharks. Goaltender Gibson made 31 saves for Anaheim. The Game 1 loss ended the Ducks seven game winning streak. Anaheim will look to recover from their slashing loss and tie up the series before heading home for Game 3. The Vegas odds makers favorite Anaheim Ducks are listed at -1 ½(+230) and the home dogs as the San Jose Sharks at +1 ½ (-270). The game total is listed at 5(-110) for the over/under bettor.
The Sharks will continue to look to their defensemen to make offensive moves when the opportunities arise. San Jose calls it the “fourth-man’s ice”. It’s when the defense creates offense and Burns knows too well how to do it. In Game 1, the Sharks saw their defensemen make 22 attempts on offense. Game 2 will start at 10:30 pm ET on the ice of the Honda Center on Saturday, April 14th. Can the Ducks win over the Sharks two games in a row or will the Sharks even the series?
